Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture Tereza Cristina Corrêa da Costa Dias presents Ivan Pupo Lauandos, President of Aviagen Latin America, with original compartment certification in 2019
CAMPINAS, Brazil – November began with exciting news for Aviagen® in Brazil, which has once again received compartment certificate for 13 of its production units located in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Compartmentalization allows the company to continue the safe and secure export of Ross® 308 AP grandparent (GP) and parent stock (PS) breeding chicks from Aviagen Brazil supply bases during times of poultry disease outbreak in the region or country.
Aviagen Brazil was awarded compartmentalization for the first time in 2019, while the company’s business unit in Colombia received the status in 2020. Aviagen operations in the United Kingdom, the United States and India have earned the certification in their respective countries, and Aviagen UK has exported broiler breeding chicks to customers in South Africa and Japan under the scheme.
Compartmentalization explained
Under the compartmentalization scheme, birds are shipped from approved farms known as “free compartments” to countries that recognize the certification. Certified compartments have undergone strict evaluation by government agencies, which have determined them to be disease-free, physically isolated from neighboring poultry populations and managed according to strict biosecurity control. Other criteria are regular monitoring by veterinarians, along with effective bird identification, tracking and surveillance systems. To obtain or renew this certification, the company needs to prove, through documentation, that it has differentiated biosecurity procedures.
